NICU Doula Support

No one imagines their parenting journey beginning here.
A NICU stay can begin suddenly, unfold differently than expected, or arrive after weeks of uncertainty.
When everything feels unfamiliar, overwhelming, or difficult to make sense of, you don't have to navigate it alone.
Whether you're trying to understand what's happening, find your footing within the experience, or simply make it through one day at a time, this is a place where both you and your baby matter.
Steady, compassionate support through life in and after the NICU.

When your baby is in the NICU
The NICU can be both lifesaving and deeply disorienting.
Many parents find themselves holding fear, grief, hope, and exhaustion all at once.
You may be absorbing constant updates, navigating unfamiliar terminology, or grieving parts of pregnancy and early parenthood that feel interrupted.
These responses are not signs of weakness.
They are natural responses to a demanding and tender experience.
The NICU can feel like learning a new language overnight.
New terminology.
Constant decisions.
Unfamiliar routines.
All while recovering from birth, becoming a parent, and trying to make sense of what has happened.
NICU doula support is care that centres you when medically necessary care is needed.
You are more than a bystander in your baby’s care.
You are a parent — recovering, adjusting, processing, and building a relationship with your baby under circumstances you never expected.
My role is to help you find your footing within the experience, offering emotional support, practical guidance, and a steady presence while you navigate life in and beyond the NICU.
This chapter is not only about survival or discharge dates.
It's also about bonding, healing, identity, and making sense of what has happened.
I offer relational, responsive care that adapts to your reality — whether your stay is brief and intense or long and complex.

What NICU Support Looks Like
Support is shaped around your needs and may include:
-
Emotional Grounding
A calm, non-judgmental space to process fear, grief, numbness, anger, hope — or all of it at once.
-
Education & Translation
Helping you make sense of terminology, procedures, and decisions when everything suddenly feels unfamiliar.
-
Communication Preparation
Helping you find the questions you didn't know you needed to ask — and the confidence to ask them.
-
Whole-Person Support
Because you are not only caring for a baby in the NICU — you are recovering, adjusting, and becoming a parent too.
-
Preparing for Home
Support navigating the emotional and practical shift from hospital to home — a transition that can feel both joyful and unexpectedly vulnerable.

The Foundations of NICU Support
Clarity
So you can better understand medical language, care plans, and next steps without feeling overwhelmed.
Emotional Grounding
So your nervous system has space to soften — even when circumstances are uncertain.
ADVOCACY
& COMMUNICATION
So you feel informed, prepared, and confident asking questions and expressing your preferences.
Parental Identity & Bonding
So you remain connected to your role as a parent, not just an observer within a medical setting.
CONTINUITY OF CARE
So there is one steady presence who knows your story and remains alongside you as things evolve.

CLIENT EXPERIENCE
"Toni is simply an amazing person and amazing doula. Her support played a critical role in my maternity - and our parenthood - journey. During pregnancy, her hypnobirthing courses and pre-birth visits helped me to feel calm, empowered and supported, including the day of our babies beautiful birth at the hospital. During postpartum she allowed me to get some rest or time for myself while she took good care of the twins. Finally, six months after birth, the rebozo closing ceremony was a unique experience which made me feel nurtured, recentered and ready to move on to a next phase of parenthood. Toni has been our rock, thanks to her love, listening and care in a subtle but efficient manner. I highly recommend her."
— Laura - First time parent - Mum of twins

A FINAL WORD
The NICU asks a great deal of parents — in ways that are both visible and unseen.
You are allowed to be supported — emotionally, practically, and compassionately — as you move through it.
If you’re looking for steady, compassionate support that helps you feel more grounded and less alone within a complex system, I would be honoured to support you.
